NCLB/MAP Consequential Validity Study: Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education

ARC conducted a multiyear study of the consequences of MAP (Missouri Assessment Program) testing under the federal NCLB (No Child Left Behind) law for the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. Participants included state education personnel, school board members, superintendents, principals, teachers, parents, students, and other groups interested in education.

  • Reviewed published literature;
  • Designed research approach, in collaboration with client;
  • Recruited participants for 24 focus groups throughout Missouri;
  • Designed and conducted focus groups and interviews with 209 participants;
  • Transcribed, analyzed, and reported focus group and interview data;
  • Developed items for seven different surveys;
  • Administered surveys to over 15,000 people involved in education;
  • Managed and analyzed data from surveys using SPSS;
  • Wrote a series of reports using the qualitative and quantitative data;
  • Presented results along with the client at the annual meeting of the American Educational Research Association.

Quality of Work Life: University of Missouri Research Reactor Center (MURR)

ARC conducted a study of the work environment at the campus research reactor (MURR). ARC conducted both the qualitative and quantitative analyses and presented results and recommendations in focus group and survey reports.

  • Designed research approach, in collaboration with client;
  • Designed and conducted four focus groups of employees;
  • Transcribed and analyzed focus group data using Qualrus;
  • Wrote report summarizing focus group data and making recommendations;
  • Developed survey items using focus group findings, in collaboration with client;
  • Designed and administered a web survey to all MURR employees;
  • Collected and analyzed survey data;
  • Wrote report summarizing survey data;
  • Presented findings and recommendations to MURR Quality of Worklife Committee.
